Lake Isabella was a blast!!!!
On Friday morning, June 19th, Klaus and I packed up the car and headed North on I-5 to Lake Isabella.
Here we are at about 9:30 loading up the car. We took his kite gear, my kite gear and three kites and two boards of Dan's. Then there was the food, beer and personal items. I'm surprised we were able to get it all in.....
Here we are pulling away. Can you see Ruth in the door reflection? This time we drove through Mojave and used highway 178. It's known as the back way to the lake. Last year Klaus and I drove the front way and he thought the road was too close to the edge. No worries.
About 3 and a half hours later we arrived at Lake Izzi. It looked pretty full to us, but what do we city folks know. Besides we didn't care as long as there was plenty of wind.
Upon arrival we introduced ourselves to Matt DeFusco who is the local kite instructor. He also had an all important jet ski that's over his shoulder. Todd Case is on the right. You can contact Matt at airtimekiteboarding.com. He will be up there all summer. Here he's showing us how to self launch. It looked pretty easy. A trick we can use at Belmont too.
Here is Klaus on his first run. Man was it a picture perfect day. Check it out Klaus is the only kite or windsurfer in the shot.
Here's the all important jet ski. On Friday there were only a few windsurfers.
Later on Friday we moved to a new campsite. One that had more room for our kites and cars.
This is a shot from the other side of the lake. As you can see it's pretty big. The reason we drove around the lake is Hank Sanchez (naishkiter@sbcglobal.net) lost his board while trying to rescue Klaus. We never did find it, but Klaus really appreciated all that Hank did to rescue him from the middle of the lake when his kite lines twisted. Thanks Hank.
