Arnaud competed in 2008 Kiteboarding Nationals

A fellow SCKA member and Belmont kiter, Arnaud Vuillermet, recently competed in the 2008 US Kiteboarding Nationals. He sent me these pictures yesterday and I'm sharing them with you, his friends at Belmont. Thanks for sharing Arnaud.

The race poster is pretty awesome. The race was held up in San Francisco from June 9th through the 15th. You can get more race information at http://www.stfyc.com/

This shot is the qualification day. I counted 25 kites on this race start. You can see the smoke of the starting gun on the boat committee.Man does that look exciting. Arnaud mentioned, "At this level of competition, you definitely need endurance, strength, tide knowledge, racing tactics, great gear, and course-racing experience."

Here is Arnaud during the race, going slightly downwind to the reach mark.

This shot is Arnaud near the Golden Gate Bridge, tacking hard upwind against the current, since sometimes it was flooding at more than 4 knots...

This is an epic start with about 42 kiter's. Half of the fleet starting starboard and the other half starting port. Needless to say those going port who didn't make it on time, had to let the whole fleet pass by. Some tangled, but all the protests were sorted out with some redressment. If you go to the web site and click on "Results" you can see how many races there were.

Looks like a downwind turn to the leeward mark (yellow buoy)

A shot of Arnaud relaxing.

Left to right, Arnaud, who finished 25th, Bruce Johnson finished 32nd and Frank Wittke finished 21st. Not shown is Ella Johnson (the youngest competitor at age 16) finished 33rd. The F-one team was using Neptune POW racing boards and 2008 F-one Bandits kites.

This is the winner Damien LeRoy. If I counted correctly he competed in 15 races. The top finishers were on Ken Winner's and Nils Stolzlechner's boards.
