Birthdays, Birthdays! Visitors, Visitors! Party, Party!

Saturday March 20, 2010

OK it took a little while to coordinate but tonight was a double birthday night. It was also a celebration of Rijk's parents arrival in the United States for a visit.

On February 10th Dan turned 34 and on February 25th Sara turned 31, but with our busy schedules the celebration didn't happen until tonight.

To set the mood Ruth selected Cardinal and Gold (purple and yellow) tulips for the centerpieces. It also just happens to be the famed flower of Holland. That's where Rijk and his parents are from....if you hadn't heard.

Cardinal and Gold also is the colors for USC. Here Dan and Kristin hold Bebe. She's wearing her new USC t-shirt and collar.

Oh boy!! Gerrit (Rijk's Dad) and his mom, Riet, dropped by bearing gifts. Ruth was given a book on tulips and....

I received some homemade cheese from Holland. Gerrit was very proud of the cheese they selected and I can't wait to get it on a cracker.

Rijk, Kristin and Dan cut it up in the kitchen. Oops did Kris say something wrong???

In the mean time the moms were having a fun chat because a few years ago Ruth took a boat ride through Holland visiting the tulips when they were blooming. She remembered how close the boat was to the sides of the locks. Or it was a different story...I don't remember.

Sara and Brian got a kick out of Bebe's t-shirt too. I think Sara was a little surprised.

Then Ruth brought out Bebe's wardrobe. Bebe's a fashionista.

Ruth gets a kick out of showing Bebe's new swim suit. It's a little cold at the moment so Ruth won't be putting it on her until it warms up a little.

On the extreme left is Ruth's brother Randy who just got off of work.
First course was posole soup. Mmmmmm. The second course was carnita's enchiladas. Double Mmmmmm.

Next came blowing out the candles on the "CAKE." Kristin did a great job of juggling them.

"Make a wish!"

There's a cup cake shop close by and they had quite a selection. We cut them in quarters and added two flavors of ice cream. Triple mmmmmmmm!!!!!!

Presents for Dan........

and presents for Sara..

Naturally there had to be a couple of family fotos.

As Gerrit, Rijk and Riet depart I remembered Gerrit hoping while he's here he can go on a Harley motorcycle ride again. He did it on his last visit too. Riet wants to go shopping with Ruth and Rijk wants to try out his repaired Wainman kite.....Sorry Rijk we haven't had much wind lately.

Great pictures of a really fun evening. Yes, it is a little like trying to get the Pope and the President together--our kids are just TOO BUSY! But we'll see Daniel more often now that he bought a condo in the shore! He will be eating at the folks more frequently while he goes through "economic recovery"! YAY!

Bebe had fun too---she was under my feet all day in the kitchen hoping I would drop some morsel as I was cooking---why have kibble when mom drops chicken and pork bits? Very nice to visit with Rijk's parents as well.
